Hi, I'm Sandra Owen

My Story.....

I've faced my fair share of challenges in life just like everyone else, but the one thing that has helped me cope in life is creativity, be it music or crafting.

I believe doing what you love is good for the soul, and helps us emotionally, mentally and physically to overcome and thrive after heartache, depression, loneliness and more.

I started drawing and making things out of rubbish as a young child. I didn't realise at the time but it was my way of connecting with my heart, my happy place, after the death of my father when I was 7 years old.

My personal Self Discovery journey began around 2010. I loved teaching, however being a visiting peripatetic tutor was no longer fulfilling me in the way that it once did. I had no idea what else to do! I realised I had lost all connection with my own dreams which made me feel miserable and alone. I knew there had to be more to life than what I was living but I simply didn't know how or where to start creating the change I so desperately wanted.

I've learnt that releasing buried emotional pain and reconnecting with our creative spirit is crucial to personal growth and health. I recognised the seeds that had been planted throughout my life and it was now up to me to nurture them into full bloom. No matter how big or small, we all have gifts to share in our own unique way and reconnecting with our innate creativity is the path back to our heart.

Too often the very things that make us feel joyful and free as children can get gradually squashed out of us and our education system does not promote right brain creativity in the same way it promotes left brain academia. It doesn't embrace whole brain learning and encourage us to use our imagination as it should.

Can you imagine what our world would be like if there were no music, no art, no dance, no colour, no theatre? We all turn to these things for entertainment and emotional connection. These things make us smile, cry, laugh, reflect, connect and relax. So why are subjects like music, art, drama and dance squeezed out of our school curriculum when budgets are cut? The very things that we as humans need, crave and turn to for our sanity, our emotional wellbeing and entertainment!

We must preserve our creativity, use our imaginations, develop curiosity, resourcefulness and problems solving skills. "Imagination is more important than knowledge!" - Einstein

Some of us were born to climb trees, some to swim and some to craft and play music. What a wonderful world we can all create together when we do and share what we love.

I have a BA (hons) in Music, the CT ABRSM (Certificate of Teaching - Associated Board of the Royal School of Music) and over 30 years teaching experience in private and LEA education. I mentored people from all over the world as a Guide for the Masterkey Experience and I've run creative workshops for adults on their own personal journey. I have taught people from age 7 - 75 and it's wonderful witnessing them progress and develop their creative skills in music and craft. I continue to teach music privately which I love.

If you'd like to talk about how you can reconnect with your innate creativity then book a Creative Call with me.

Love Sandra x
