Are you looking Inside or Outside?

The following is a very small excerpt from a set of new courses around Creative Self Awareness available in the Spring 2018. This extract is from ‘Spiritual Health.’

I love studying metaphysical concepts, and something that really struck home with me recently was that I can spend too much time listening to other people’s ideas and not enough on listening and trusting myself. At some point you have to accept for yourself that you have access to the exact same Source as the greatest gurus and teachers. We can look to others for guidance too often sometimes, when actually you already know the right answers.

‘If a person always lived near to Mind he would never make any great mistakes. Some seem to have the faculty of always knowing just what is best to do; they always succeed because they avoid making errors. We can also train ourselves that we will be guided by the Supreme Mind of the Universe; but we can never do this until we believe that we can receive direct from the source of all knowledge. This is done by sitting in the silence and knowing that the Spirit is inwardly directing us.’ (Ernest Holmes – Creative Mind and Success)

Outside and Inside Reistance

I was beginning to panic over my finances. There just wasn’t enough coming in and too much going out. I would trawl Abraham Hicks videos on Youtube and read books by other metaphysical teachers looking for answers. Then it occurred to me that I was always looking outside of myself for some pearl of wisdom that would solve my financial situation. I had forgotten that the best answer had been within me all the time. A bit like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, she had the power to go home all the time. She just didn’t realise it.

When you look at every experience as a teaching, a reflection of an energy vibration within you that for some reason you are still attached to, it makes everything a little easier. My ego was panicking and trying to draw my attention to lack, throwing up endless questions; How could I earn more money? Should I give up my dreams and get a ‘proper’ job? What job could I do? How do you keep those scary, annoying, destructive thoughts out? After all, it’s a scary place to be, having responsibility for running a house and not enough money coming in to take care of the basics.

I struggled to create a sense of calm, even though I knew I was only making matters worse by worrying. When you are focused on the lack of something you want or need, you are creating resistance in your energy flow. The best way to release the resistance is to do something which you have no resistance around which allows your mind to relax. For me this is either playing my musical instruments, colouring or making craft things.

‘What you feel you are always dominates what you feel you would like to be; therefore, to be realized, the wish must be felt as a state that is rather than a state that is not. Sensation precedes manifestation and is the foundation upon which all manifestation rests. Be careful of your moods and feelings, for there is an unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world. Your body is an emotional filter and bears the unmistakable marks of your prevalent emotions.’ (Neville Goddard – Feeling is the Secret)

Doing what you love reconnects you.

We are not encouraged to trust in our own judgement. From a young age we are taught that other people’s opinions are important and often as children we are punished if we don’t comply with other people’s wishes, even if they are contrary to our own. It can take a lot of mental effort on our part to break free of the conditioning of a lifetime.

What do you LOVE doing that makes you feel happy, calm, refocused, inspired, energised and motivated again? We are all different so there is no right or wrong answer. Often the things we enjoyed most as a child are clues to what you enjoy as an adult.

Are you an outdoor person? Do you enjoy walking in nature? Playing sport? Gardening?

Are you an indoor person? Do you enjoy crafting? Cooking? Decorating? Reading? Drawing?

Give some serious thought this week to what makes you feel good. Remember it’s all about connecting with our feelings.
