Self Discovery or Personal Development? Is there a difference?

Self Discovery or Personal Development?

You have probably seen and heard lots of stuff about the importance of Personal Development and Self Discovery. But are they really just the same thing? If not, what’s the difference?

Self DiscoveryWhen I first started putting together ideas for my creative course in late 2013, I thought the course would fall under the umbrella of Personal Development.

For me Personal Development was something I associated with learning and improving your skills and knowledge base. It was about improving and enhancing your own personal growth in order to achieve something such as a promotion at work, or master a particular task.

‘The imagination may be cultivated by exercise. It must be supplied with nourishment or it cannot live.’ (Charles Haanel – The Master Key System)

But as time passed, more and more ideas began to flow, and people started to do the course and feel great about themselves, I realised it was more than Personal Development.

S.E.L.F Discovery

Self DiscoveryTo me, the term Self Discovery means ‘Discovery of your Self’, the Spirit within you, your Inner Being. My acronym for Self is ‘Source Energy Life Force’, meaning that Consciousness, life energy within you that keeps you alive. When we connect with that part of ourselves life flows more easily.

One way to tap into our Inner Spirit is through our imagination. Our ability to create in our mind is what makes each and every one of us amazing creators. Thought, imagination and our ability to control them, is what makes us unique, individual and magical.

‘The man who at will can assume whatever state he pleases has found the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. The keys are desire, imagination, and a steadily focused attention on the feeling of the wish fulfilled.’ (Neville Goddard – The Power of Awareness)

And when in our lives are we most naturally imaginative and magical? When we are children! We created through imagination all the time. We pretended. This time in our lives is the training ground to strengthen and develop our imaginations. The word ‘Pretend’ literally means:

Pre – previous to; before

Tend – to be disposed or inclined in action, operation, or effect to do something

‘The ideal held steadily in mind attracts the necessary conditions for its fulfilment.’ Charles Haanel – The Master Key System)

ImaginationSo in our Mind we go before to prepare what we want. Through a healthy, keen and focused imagination we see more and more clearly, we feel ourselves already living and doing the things we want. Then we need to allow the Universal Law of Attraction to align the energies in order to bring to us the conditions we pre-tended. This is ‘Unconditional love’. We must love a condition before we experience it in our life.

My purpose is to help others reconnect with that imaginative, creative inner spirit within. To reignite their Self Confidence and Self Belief in a fun, inspiring and engaging way. Why? Because we learn by doing, and what better way to learn than through creative play. 🙂
