How can grief be fun?

Last weekend I attended the third Grief Recovery UK Conference in Newport Pagnell. What?? Why?? That sounds really depressing!! Why would anyone want to spend a whole weekend focusing on grief??!!! 🙂

For more years than I care to remember grief, death, loss and bereavement would have evoked the same questions in me. I’ve got better things to do with my time. Definitely not for me. Right?!!!

Wrong! It was one of the most inspiring and uplifting conferences I have ever been to. Every attendee was a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist within the UK or Europe. Every person had a story to tell of the wonderful transformation they experienced doing the Grief Recovery Method. Every Specialist had story after story of client transformations after finally letting go of deeply painful emotions they’d been holding in for years.

The Evidence

Although we all knew the program works it was wonderful to hear from Phyl Edmonds, one of the UK’s top trainers, that the Grief Recovery Method is the only evidence-based psycho-educational program available for grief and loss. (Research study by Dr Rachel Nolan)

The program was exclusively developed by grievers FOR grievers based on over 40 years of firsthand experience. The program is now implemented across the world in 22 unique countries and the handbook has been translated into 15 different languages.

As I took a client through her final session today I witnessed anxiety and tears turn to smiles and relief right before my eyes. As soon as she had finished reading her Completion Letter® she remarked that she felt different. Her body relaxed, her eyes began to shine and she openly admitted she felt exhausted in a good way.

How do I know if I’m holding on to unresolved grief?

Try answering a few questions with a simple Yes or No……

Have you ever been widowed or divorced?
Have you experienced the death of a close family member?
Have you experienced the death of a distant family member or friend?
Were you physically abused during childhood?
Were you sexually abused during childhood?
Have you ever experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion?
Have you experienced a series of illnesses or accidents?
Have you had a series of unsuccessful romantic relationships?
Do you feel anger or resentment toward a parent, spouse, friend or relative?
Have you experienced the death of a pet?
Do you isolate yourself from others regularly?
Do you drink alcohol to excess or prefer to keep busy to take your mind off negative emotions?
Have you experienced big changes in your financial circumstances?
Can you be in a room full of people and yet feel so alone?
Do you think all men are b******ds or all women are b*t***s?
Do you find yourself tearing up for no obvious reason?
Do you get angry easily?

The questions are endless right!
If you answered Yes to any of the above you may be holding on to unresolved painful emotions associated with loss. Carrying negative emotions in our body is exhausting and long term can be extremely detrimental to our physical and mental health.

The Grief Recovery Method gives you the opportunity to complete on emotion pain associated with loss. Maybe you’ve never dared to share for fear of judgement or criticism, or maybe you simply have never felt safe to say how you really feel.

The transformation in people’s lives who have the courage to face themselves is immense and the reason I became a Specialist. As an Advanced Specialist I am licensed to take you through the 1:1 program online so distance is no barrier.
